WISCONSIN RAPIDS – Caribou Coffee has plans to open a coffee shop in the city.
According to city documents, the company plans to build a 600-square-foot building at 2820 Eighth St. S., next to Domino’s. The Wisconsin Rapids Plan Commission will discuss the proposal at its meeting at 5:30 p.m. Monday in the Council Chambers at City Hall, 444 W. Grand Ave.
The location would include a drive-thru as well as a walk-up window and outdoor seating. Entrances would be on Grove Avenue and Eighth Street South.
The property is currently vacant. The Plan Commission also will discuss a separate request Monday proposing the land at 2820 Eighth St. S., be split into two lots. Caribou Coffee would occupy one of the lots.
City documents show the business’s operating hours would be from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily. The coffee shop would employ about six full-time employees and 15 part-time workers.
The Minneapolis-based company offers a variety of coffee, food and accessories at hundreds of locations across the country, including 28 in Wisconsin. The company’s Wisconsin locations are primarily in western Wisconsin, including five locations in Eau Claire, three in Menomonie and two in Hudson.
The company last month proposed a Stevens Point coffee shop to be built on a vacant lot on Frontage Road, near the Perkins restaurant.
