The new Brew It Coffee House pushes the border of downtown’s casual-dining scene two blocks to the southwest with its opening on the ground floor of the built-from-scratch 601 Bridger Avenue building. The coffee shop promotes itself as a neighborhood coffee shop and encourages customers to “sit back, relax, and work” just south of the bustling Fremont East Entertainment District and Fremont Street Experience. What’s happening: Summit opened its first Charlotte shop in December 2020 in NoDa. Now, it’s adding a franchise location about a mile away on The Plaza between the Villa Heights and Plaza Hills neighborhoods. Summit is also opening cafés in SouthPark, Mooresville and in the Lake Norman area. After almost 40 years, the landmark cafe Uptown Espresso in Seattle's Uptown neighborhood is closing its doors for good on August 31.The original café of six Seattle locations, Uptown Espresso opened in 1984 at the hands of Jack Kelly and was later turned over to Dow Lucurell.
